On the way to Canton Ticino.

Here we are…again on the road!

This time our destination is to the Canton Ticino, in the small city of Locarno where Stefano’s company has the production plant. He had to spend 2 days meeting some colleagues down there.

Our long weekend started Sunday morning when we left Geneva driving to Locarno. The weather was nice, just a bit cloudy.

Following Parents’ suggestion we took the road through Furka Pass and Gottard Pass.

It is nice drive on the highway untill Brig, from this city to the end of the valley, the way is an alternance of speedway and normal road. Before starting the climb to Furka Pass, we passed through many nice villages with many typical wooden houses.

After our fast lunch, we started our climb to Furka Pass.

The road is really comfortable and easy to drive despite many curves. Just few hundreds meters before the Pass is located the famous abandoned Belvedere Hotel ( https://www.amusingplanet.com/2018/11/hotel-belvedere-iconic-swiss-hotel-at.html ). One of the most photographed hotel in Switzerland.

Because it was Sunday we couldn’t find any parking space where to stop, so we didn’t take any picture of the hotel. We will try another time!

The road was really crowded, full of cars and motorbike. Many people organize cars’ and motorbikes’ “driving meeting” along this panoramic road.

From the Furka Pass the view of the valley is amazing! We took many picture before being shrouded by the clouds.

We’ve driven the descent into clouds that reduced the visibility to less than 3 meters. Scary!!

Our plan was to see also the Gottard Pass, but because of the clouds and an incredible traffic, we just drove without tasting any landscape. Anyway, as we sadly discovered, the Gottard Pass has been ruined by the construction of wind turbines. What a shame!!

Now lets say that 90% of the time, in Locarno the weather is really nice, sunny and dry….. except for that Sunday…. that day was rainig like there is no tomorrow and was extremely wet. I was worried Den wouldn’t like that place, but on the other hand was nice to see it even in bad weather conditions. In the next 2 days we visited a bit Locarno.

It is already Tuesday afternoon and we took again our road back to Geneva but we planned to stop 2 days in Savièse ( we’ve been already there few weeks ago ) to celebrate my father’s birthday. Again parents with campingcar and us with our Camperized Rav4.

We bought a cake and Spumante. Annnnnd Happy Birthday!! 70 years and still being like a teenager…:)

We have choosen a different road to reach Savièse, the Novena Pass. We would suggest you to see this amazing Pass. The view of the Alps is speechless!! One of the best view We’ve ever seen.

We were so excited that we wanted to open my father’s spumante… 🙂

The day after the weather was really good, so we drove direction Grimentz untill the beautiful lake of Moiry. It is an artificial lake created by a huge dam. The water is so crystal light blue, looks even not real. The color is due to the melting of the glacier, still visible from the lake.

Please walk over the dam and from the other side of the lake there are many paths you can follow. We walked around one hour to reach higher point of view and to better see the glacier.

Our drone was fighting against the strong wind but the result is really scenografic!

First drone video with my parents in the scene…… they look really comfortable! 🙂

The hiking was not too strong, so after about 2 hours we went back to our car and we drove untill the end of the valley, closer to the beginning of the glacier. We relaxed, having our lunch all together and doing some foto-video.

Good evening meal with green beans ( Deniz loves this vegetable 🙂 ) and, like every night, our Italian lesson all together!!

Is really good and comfortable sleeping in the car. Our thermic car glasses’ cover do their job admirably. Sleeping inside is more warm and dry than in a tent.

After good breakfast we went to Sion. It is the biggest city of Canton Vallais built around two close hills, first one with the Castle of Tourbillon on the top and the other one with the Valère Church.

With a short but steep path you can reach the ruins of the castle.

We suggest to go because from up there the view of the valley is great!!

Unfortunately the Church on the other side was close. Because they were doing some maintenance works, an Helicopter was moving stones from the top of the hill to river side making so loudy noise.

We went back quite fast to the city center which is really nice, clean and organized. Tipically Swiss Style!

The visit of the city, included castle and church takes around 3 hours. So if you have to pay the parking mostly you should pay 2 CHF.

We still had time to buy bread for our late afternoon lunch.

The temperature outside was so good, warm and dry. We had bbq chicken, with salad and sausages. Before main meal. of course, our usual apero is a must! 😉

In the evening the weather got cloudy again and was so stormy and scary.

After the storm the sun came back showing us one of the best orange sunset we ever seen in our life.
