Normandy – Brittany Summer Trip

( Part 2 )

On the day of 4, sun was smiling upon us. We are the kind of people that easily melt under the beautiful sunshine. As the sun was smiling to us we were smiling back at it.

We started driving to the direction of Arromanches. There we were curious to visit D-Day 75 gardens. Especially Ste was dreaming about these gardens by the beach. An incredible memorial everyone should see once in a lifetime. Full of history and many lessons to learn. Omaha Beach is a piece of heaven for those who loves learning the history, and enjoy the sand on their feet while doing so.

After taking all it in, we decided to move on to the direction of Barfleur before losing too much time. On the way to Barfleur, sun was on the position of hiding behind the clouds. The weather had turned into be more windy and grey at that time. This type of weather is quite common in North of France, we would recommend you to be prepared for fast changing weather conditions.

Anyway back to Barfleur..Guys, we adore little villages, the people from the villages and how the life seems tranquil in villages small and quite like this one in Barfleur. On top of this tranquility, Barfleur was on the seaside with a little bit of wildness. Before visiting Barfleur, we had read that it has a fame of being the most beautiful village in the area, however, after seeing all the other villages we still can not make up our minds and put a finger on the most beautiful one!

After taking our nice but windy walk inside the village, after some hundreds photos, we found ourselves at Phare of Gatteville! Just breathtaking! We don’t have the exact words to describe it but let us try.. It is one of the highest lighthouses we have ever seen. It is by the ocean, surrounded by mostly beige color stones. The view is consisting of an endless ocean where the waves hitting the rocks splashing and washing everything it touches and just right there in the middle of this scene there it is… a giant big lighthouse standing.

We spent most of our time admiring the waves, taking photos, playing throw stones at the ocean. Then after Ste got a genius idea, to climb the stairs inside the lighthouse, it would be perfect memory to enjoy the view from the top of this gigantic lighthouse!

Even though Den always complains taking the stairs, on the top she had a smile on her face at the second we reached on the top! It was in one word just ” BREATHTAKING!!” We do not know how else we can describe this! A little bit scary yes, as it was very very very windy..but the view does not care! The views were still there and still incredible, adorable.

After the incredible heights, we found ourselves at lows.. it the sea level, the Port Racine.. The smallest port of France. Very cute and a photogenic port. Full of cars, many people stops there to have a look and take a little walk around the boats.

This France trip is now full of flashbacks from lighthouses. Another lighthouse we can not get over is Phare du Cap de la Hague. Even the name to call is just giving me chills. Beautiful! Not easy to reach, to get close as it is literally in the ocean. You may need a little boat to get closer. We were wishing to have our kayak with us but I am afraid if would be quite an adventure to kayak there on a windy day as the day we were there. We definitely recommend to take a walk around the area, the beach is quite wild and beautiful to hear whispers from the lighthouse. Den felt like she is a lighthouse chaser and this one was quite a catch.

From this point, at the rest of the day, wherever we went, the wind was there before we arrived. This time we were at Jobourg Cliffs and Ste was getting creative with his photography ideas meanwhile I was forcing my eyes to keep open against the wind. This was a great experience to walk over the cliffs at a beautiful beach.

Very next day, we woke up early and arrived in Coutances. We have to admit, we loved Coutances! We had the chance to walk thru in a center market, experienced local food and many boutique shops. Den bought a beautiful handmade basket, you will see this basket in her Mont Saint Michel photos. Life in Coutances is pretty cool, pretty magical. Everyone seemed real kind and happy here. Coutances has this incredible Church at city center, we went inside the Church and had a quick look just before jumping into Coutances’s botanical gardens. There we even made a very cool friend with paws!!

From Coutances, the very next stop was the very famous Point du Roc in Granville. The port is very wild and this it what makes it extremely photogenic. In North of France, it is quite common to witness low tides, to Den low tides are incredible and can be extremely dangerous. At Point du Roc, we witnessed a crazy low tide event which you may see yourself in our video in Brittany Normany Part 2.

Very next day, we started our day in Mt. St. Michel, yay! From the carpark, there are busses that takes you till the Michel however, we preferred to walked, it was a 15-20 mins walk with a view of the Michel all the way along.

Beautiful. Here we experienced another the most beautiful low tide event, I am guessing it is one the most famous, well-known low tides by St. Mont Michel. Just incredible. When we arrived at this unique village Mountain, it was just starting to get crowded, that’s why we would recommend you to go there early in the morning if you can. Hope not everyone reading this post will do so, as it would make the morning even more crowded!! Haha. Inside the village, without noticing you will be climbing stairs and each step will carry you to the top of Mt. Saint Michel. As you go higher, the view will get better. When we arrived at the top, the water was drawn and seagulls were flying and singing around the Michel. As we close our eyes now we can still hear them calling! Up there we did some nice photos and on the way back, we stayed around the Michel by looking at it from a distance. We walked on the sand and took some photos before leaving this unforgettable beauty of France.

That day we were not sure where to spend the night, after some calculations and map studying we decided to spend the evening in Saint Malo. Despite the grey sky and little rain, we spent all evening walking around the city and being tourists. St. Malo is a nice city, big and crowded enough to give the feeling of being a tourist in it. Nice restaurants, cars everywhere, big walls around the city. Besides all, what took our heart most was the castle at the beach! You have to look at it! Just incredible! Magnificent! … the name of the castle.

Day 8. Dinan, real cutie!

One of the most amazing, magical little town we discovered during this trip. Narrow colourful streets made of stone, rustic houses merged with local shops, a little lake surrounded with cozy cafe and restaurants.. A cute little bridge going over the lake! We would say, Dinan is just amazing, it is a must see.

Phare du Cap Frehel, a giant land covered with yellow and purple flowers! You think you are here to see another lighthouse but it has soo much more to offer. You think that is it, it can not get any better and then you find yourself on top of a cliff where you have a beautiful lighthouse, a land full of colorful flowers, the most jazz blue water crashing and splashing to the shores.. This was the place we didn’t want to leave! We felt the Frehel and we loved what we felt in Frehel.

At the end of the last day of the second part of our Normany Brittany trip, we drove back to our campsite in Pordic! We got a big patch in this campsite, very peaceful, clean place and extremely kind people. You can check it out here :
